The Hidden Dangers in Your Daily Routine: Why These 8 Ingredients Don’t Belong in Your Personal Care Products

If you’re trying to live a more natural, wellness-focused lifestyle, you might already be paying attention to what’s in your food. But have you peeked at the ingredient labels on your personal care products lately? 😳 From shampoo to deodorant to body lotion, what you put on your body matters just as much as what you put in it.

Let’s take a look at 8 common ingredients that are best left off your bathroom shelf—and why Jordan Essentials proudly says “no thanks” to all of them.

1. Parabens

Parabens are synthetic preservatives used in many personal care products to extend shelf life. The problem? They’ve been linked to hormone disruption because they mimic estrogen in the body. No thank you! Hormone balance is tricky enough without these troublemakers.

2. Phthalates

Often found in fragrances, phthalates help scents last longer—but at a serious cost. They’ve been associated with reproductive and developmental issues and are especially concerning for women of childbearing age and children. If you see “fragrance” on a label, and it’s not from essential oils, it could be hiding phthalates.

3. Aluminum

Commonly used in antiperspirants to block sweat glands, aluminum has raised concerns over potential links to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s. Sweating is a natural detox process—your body was designed to do it! Blocking it isn’t the solution. Detoxing gently and naturally is a much better path.

4. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) &

5. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)

These are foaming agents found in everything from toothpaste to shampoo. They might make products sudsy, but they can also cause skin irritation and strip away your skin’s natural protective barrier. SLES may also be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a probable human carcinogen. Yikes.

6. BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole)

Used as a preservative, BHA is considered a possible human carcinogen and has been banned in cosmetics in the European Union. It’s still lurking in some U.S. products—but not in ours!

7. Diethanolamine (DEA)

DEA is used to make products creamy or sudsy, but it’s been linked to hormone disruption and organ toxicity. It’s also restricted or banned in several countries due to its potential to form cancer-causing compounds when mixed with certain ingredients.

8. Petroleum (and Petroleum Byproducts)

Petroleum-based ingredients like mineral oil and petrolatum can create a barrier on your skin that may trap toxins and interfere with your skin’s natural detoxification. Plus, they’re not renewable or environmentally friendly.
